SCHEDULE FOR BAPTISM 1) Baptism is usually done during the 1015AM Sunday Mass. Other times could be scheduled on case to case basis. 2) Contact the parish early in the pregnancy to begin arrangements. 3) If you want to register for baptism or you have any questions please call the Parish office Monday to Friday, 8 am to 4 pm at 808-734-0396... or at the Religious Education Department at 808-735-0259. REQUIREMENTS FOR THE PARENTS 1) Parents must be married in the Catholic Church. 2) Parents must be registered and practicing parishioners of Star of the Sea. 3) Parents must promise to rear and form their child according to the Catholic faith. 4) A mandatory baptism preparation class for both parents and sponsors will be held. 5) Godparents need certificates of eligibility from their own Parish. 6) Bring a copy of the Birth Certificate of the Child. 7) Must fill up a Baptismal Application form. REQUIREMENTS FOR SPONSORS 1) Church law requires that a baptismal sponsor be a practicing Catholic, i.e., one who attends Mass and receives the Sacraments regularly. The reason a sponsor must be a practicing Catholic is that a sponsor is expected to pay special attention to the efforts of the person who is being baptized to live a Christian life in keeping with the teachings of the Catholic Church. Sponsors are also expected to assist the parents of the child in their Christian duty as parents, by offering them support through good example, encouragement and prayer. 2) Some advice to the parents in order to avoid difficulties: + Choose baptismal sponsors whom you know to be practicing Catholics. If that person is willing, at least six months before the baptism, to begin attending Mass and the Sacraments regularly, and, at the same time, to discuss the matter with the priest who must make the decision to write the certificate of eligibility, there is at least a possibility the person may be able to serve as a sponsor. 3) A certificate of Eligibility will be required from the potential baptismal sponsor. He or she must secure this certificate from the Parish that he or she is registered with.
